Chris has been nominated in this year's Boston Music Awards! She is up for "Outstanding Folk Act 2007" and is joined by: Chris Smither, Catie Curtis, Crooked Still and one of her biggest influences, Patty Griffin (among others). You can vote for Chris online no matter where you live.
This summer, Chris was awarded an ASCAPLUS award, which have been given each year since 1960 by ASCAP to, "reward writers whose works have a unique prestige value for which adequate compensation would not otherwise be received." Congratulations, Chris, on this prestigious honor!
In tour news, Chris is currently wrapping up a West Coast Tour that had 2 sold out shows in Portland, 1 in Seattle, and record numbers in Eugene, San Fran, LA and Davis. Upon her return from the West Coast, she'll fly east to the UK for a handful of dates with Peter Mulvey. Before taking off across the pond, however, she'll be pit-stopping in her hometown of Northampton, MA to play at the illustrious Calvin Theatre, where she will be supporting Martin Sexton.
As always, Chris has an amazing grassroots rabid fan base and growing attendance in every major and minor US market--including Boulder, Denver, Northampton, NY, Boston, Portland, Seattle, Cleveland, Ann Arbor, DC, Chapel Hill, San Francisco, LA, Atlanta and more. Since the release of her latest, Dryland, she's sold over 2,000 copies without a record label. Way to go, Chris!

November 29, 2006: A Note from Chris

Dear Friends,
As most of you know, my guitar which I had had for 10 years, was stolen from a venue earlier this fall. As I was on the road and had many upcoming shows, I needed a new instrument right away. Shortly after the incident, a longtime supporter, Matt Haven, who runs the chrispureka.net site, set up a fundraiser to help me cover the cost. A little while ago I was presented with a check from the fundraiser and I was really quite overwhelmed by the generosity of so many – and the extreme generosity of several individuals that made sizable contributions. I am writing to thank all of you who donated to the collection, which raised enough money to completely cover the cost of my new guitar. I also want to thank Susan Millions and all the folks at the Milwaukee show that raised over $200 in one night. While the theft of my guitar was a great personal loss for me, I feel so fortunate and so grateful for the subsequent support and generosity from the community. A list of the individuals who contributed to the fund as well as individuals that gave to me directly is copied below. I also want to thank all the people who reached out, offered assistance, lent guitars, listened, and offered sympathy.
With the help of Meg Miller and the Old Town School of Music in Chicago, I purchased a new Martin guitar, and I am very pleased with it. The model that was stolen is no longer available but the new one is very similar and actually has upgraded electronics. Thanks to you all for helping to make it happen.
Thanks for all the support, thanks for listening. I hope to see you all out there.
Sincerely,
Chris PurekaMany thanks to:
